Ultra Violet (UV) light comes primarily from the sun. It can also come from sources like electric arcs (used for welding, plasma cutting etc.) and from specialized lights such as Black Lights, Mercury Vapor lamps and tanning lamps.
Over-exposure of the eyes to UV light can lead to:
- Macular Degeneration which is caused by damage to the retina
- Surfer's Eye, a pink non-cancerous growth that forms on the layer of conjunctiva over the white region of the eye
Anti-UV glasses provide protection to the eyes from the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays.
